A man holding a cigarette and riding a mobility scooter gives Newsnight its scorching verdict on Boris

“It’s a pain in the ass – is it on TV?” A man holding a cigarette while riding a mobility scooter gives Newsnight its searing verdict on Boris – as viewers demand he and his friend be made Prime Minister and Chancellor instead

  • Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister after 59 MPs left
  • The man appeared on the Newsnight show on Thursday about the Prime Minister’s resignation
  • He described Mr Johnson as a ‘pain in the ass’ and said he wanted Boris to ‘go away’

It’s the hilarious moment a man described Boris Johnson as a ‘pain in the ass’ to a BBC reporter on TV.

On the Newsnight show on Thursday night, a reporter was looking to speak to members of the public and so took to the streets of Reading to see what people thought of Boris Johnson’s resignation.

Boris Johnson finally announced he was stepping down from his role yesterday. In a statement to Downing Street, the Prime Minister tried to strike an optimistic tone by confirming that his MPs “clearly” wanted change and that his term would end when a new Conservative leader was installed.

Newsnight editor Sima Kotecha visited the marginal Tory seat in Reading West to get a sense of the post-resignation atmosphere.

Ms Kotecha stops the man on the mobility scooter, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, introducing herself before asking: ‘How do you feel about Boris Johnson stepping down today?’

Then the sequence cuts to his friend, who says of Boris: “He’s an idiot. He can’t do anything right. Is it on TV?

Hilariously, someone wrote on Twitter about the clip: “The guy on his mobility scooter, with a cig. Can we have him in The Cabinet?

And similarly, Erin Mae Denny, from Leeds, was approached by a BBC reporter who was looking for members of the public to comment on the news of the Prime Minister’s resignation – but she was none the wiser.

In response to the reporter, Ms Denny said: ‘I didn’t even know he had quit. I just finished the job, so. Well, that’s good news for the day, I guess, isn’t it.

Her nonchalant manner as well as her northern accent were appreciated by many on Twitter, where the clip of her was shared by one user who wrote alongside the post, “Think of that queen.”

Ms Denny responded to the video, which now has over 2.6 million views on the social media platform, joking: ‘Hey look mum I’m on TV.’

In the replies, users described her as an “iconic star”, and described her relaxed attitude towards life as nonchalant and that she had “bad b**** behavior”.

Another user said, “This is exactly how I’m going to live my life from now on. With a tall glass of f***it.

One even went so far as to say that she should replace Boris Johnson: “She should be the next Prime Minister”, he wrote on Twitter.
