Collection of syringes, cigarette butts needed around the hospital grounds

Dear CVRD Board of Directors and Cowichan Regional Hospital District Board of Directors:

Please address the chronic number of discarded drug syringes, doping paraphernalia and cigarette butts on and near our valued non-smoking Cowichan District Hospital grounds.

Hopefully our obscene needle infestation can be dealt with, on an ongoing basis, before someone gets bitten and infected with a disease.

All ratings are due to our local trash collection volunteers and responsive public works crews.

Applause also for all that Will Arnold, owner of Experience Cycle, and his dedicated team are doing to clear up the terrible and dangerous drug waste left overnight near Will’s store along the Duncan Freeway Strip.

I understand that drug addicts can be challenged with clouded judgment about leaving hazardous waste for others to clean up. It’s not an excuse, but it’s the reality.

That is why we are bravely trying to address our crises of homelessness and addiction.

However, ignorant and lazy people who litter our communities have no respect for the health of residents and our environment.

Perhaps the sentences handed down by the courts for valid and capable fraudsters can teach them respect through supervised details of garbage collection around CDH and elsewhere.

We are either part of the solution or part of the problem.
