Illegal e-cigarettes, including vapes labeled ‘geek bar’, ‘bang’ and ‘solo’, seized from Medway stores

More than 800 illegal and potentially dangerous e-cigarettes were seized in a series of searches.

Trading Standards raided 27 premises between October 2021 and March this year, recovering 826 illegal vapes during the crackdown, including those labeled with popular brand names such as ‘Geek Bar’, ‘Bang’ and ‘Solo’ “.

Some products had a concentration of 5% nicotine, more than double the legal limit of 2%. Others contained more than four times the legal e-liquid limit – 2ml.

Many were mislabelled, lacked sufficient health warnings and lacked contact details for a UK-based manufacturer or importer who could be contacted in the event of a safety concern.

The products will now be destroyed by a specialized company.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for planning, economic growth and regulation, covering trading standards, said: ‘I would like to thank our trading standards team for their hard work preventing the sale of these illegal products. and potentially dangerous to “The team will continue to visit Medway stores to ensure that all e-cigarette products sold are legal and safe.

“If residents have concerns about the safety of e-cigarettes or e-liquids they find on sale, I would encourage them to report their findings to Trade Standards.”
