For her high school yearbook, at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, Ms. Hamilton chose a quote from actor Zoë Tamerlis Lund, who had been the muse and collaborator of director Abel Ferrara on the 1992 film, “Bad Lieutenant” . According to Ms. Hamilton, Fieldston did not approve of this choice, “because Zoë was a rampant heroin addict”. But the line (âWhat is not yet, but should be, is more real than what just isâ) captured something Ms. Hamilton still feels. âMy dreams are more real to me than my current life,â she said.
Five films to watch this winter
Ms. Hamilton has participated in USC’s highly competitive BFA in Theater program. Her freshman year at USC, she booked several odd acting jobs, including “Dance Camp,” a YouTube Red movie, directed by Bert & Bertie, also known as Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood. They also recently picked Ms. Hamilton over Florence Pugh in an upcoming episode of the Marvel “Hawkeye” series.
“There is something about Annie that is out of our time, like she’s out of touch with today’s culture in a really special way,” said artist Aria Dean, who has directed Ms. Hamilton in a room in Geneva, Switzerland.
“She’s like that sort of archetypal 1940s Hollywood, bubbly and fast-paced, with her kind of cut-off speech, a quick wit, and a brash that you don’t see on screen these days.” The one that says, ‘I’m not going to shut up, but I’m still on screen to get the guy.’ “
Besides âHawkeye,â Ms. Hamilton has minor roles in Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming Netflix series, âInventing Anna,â in which she plays a movie star, and a scene with Diane Keaton in Kate Aselton’s comedy, âMack & Rita “.
“Annie is one of the actors who can do more than one thing,” Cassandra Kulukundis, Paul Thomas Anderson’s casting director said on films such as “Magnolia”, “There Will Be Blood” and “Phantom Thread” .
